Links Golf as it should be…………… WINDY!
Peter Finch Uncategorised Event Write Up, Finch Golf Tour
ONLY TWO TEAM BREAK THE 83 POINT MARK…………………
Southport is the golfing mecca of the North and after being under the microscope this year for the 2017 Open Championship it passed with flying colours.
We are often frequenting to the coast with such great venues in abundance and Southport & Ainsdale GC doesn’t disappoint. Justin Rose used the venue as his escape from the media and attention during Open week while “Little John” John Daly’s Son was seen smashing the balls down the fairway on our visit in summer, but with conditions fantastic and lightning fast greens it was the uncontrollable elements which reeked havoc with todays scoring.
As always the club is equipped to handle such a big crowd and Head Professional Jim Payne and team looked after the crowd of golfers coming in droves as Adrian and staff in the clubhouse kept the 9 & 18 Hole (for the big lads) breakfasts coming regular.
A huge thanks to today’s starter Alan also who did a great job and but on by the club.
The course was in fantastic condition and many of the visitors coming for the 1st time where in in awe of the layout and test at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club – Thank you to the club for hosting and we look forward to returning in 2018.
Steve Sewell celebrated his birthday in style but the mentions need to go to Mike Worsely from Ashton in Makerfield who managed to ACE the Par 3 10th to boost his teams score as he holed out from the tee for the 1st time in his life and only the 3rd on the Tour following Leigh Smart at Pleasington (8th Hole) and Rob Hezel at West Lancashire (12th Hole)
CONGRATULATIONS WELL DONE!!!!!!!
Another Playoff decides this weeks Winners!
It’s taken 4 years but finally Earle gets over the line!
2 Teams tied on 43 points – As McGuiness birdies the last to tie but unfortunately just miss out!
3rd Place – Barton/Warner/O’Grady/Cook – 79 Points
The Huyton & Prescott crew where spear headed by regular Ste Warner but the most familiar name on the Scorecard was Joey Barton as he took a day off from his ‘Day Job” talking S…………….. Soccer on Talk Sport Radio.
Keen Golfer Barton was helped along as O’Grady smashed his drive onto the Par 4 – 4th to 8 feet then casually rolled in the Eagle 2 as the team got back on track from a slow start in the tricky cross wind as Barton went Birdie Birdie
At the turn in 39 points the guys made a stop start back nine kickstart as they finished with 16 points on the last three holes to catapult them into 3rd position alone from a cluster of players on 77 points
2nd Place – Adams/Ogden/Rigby/McGuiness – 83 Points – Card Playoff
The Team Event sensation’s Adams, Ogden & Rigby where accompanied by McGuiness of Prestbury golf club as the stern competitors created a team from all corners of the UK.
Another awesome effort from Vince Adams who has travelled up this week to play at S&A and Ganton (This Weekend) from Dorset to play again with Ogden & Rigby whom he teamed up with in this Summer’s Lakes Classic.
Racing to the turn in a sensational 44 points only bettered on the day by Barlow/Parkin/Furlong/Brougham who capitulated on the back 9 – but a slow back nine by the quartet was offered hope as 8 Handicapper Neil McGuiness finished with three gross pars on 15,16 & 17 before riffling in a birdie followed by a TIGER fist pump as the group hoped of claiming todays 1st prize – it wasn’t to be as a 40 points against 39 just pipped the guys as they tried to convince my it went hole by hole from the 18th.
1st Place – Earle/Earle/Parsonage/Livingstone – CHAMPIONS!
It’s been 4 years coming for the lads who have supported the tour far and wide often in the deepest of winter’s but today was their day as the Huyton and Prescott lads where just more proud in beating the opposition “Box of Toys” who finished in 3rd.
Tom Earle and Ben Parsonage tour regulars where accompanied by brother Ste and “Basher” Livingstone who had a Cereal Bar attached to his ball today to help find it in the “DEEP ROUGH”
But it was Livingstone doing the damage as he threaded his ball down each fairway notably from the 7th to 14th as the 18 Handicapper held the team together but a worst score of 3 points helped as the team kept things tight and with Earle and Parsonage holing out for Par 4’s on 18 enough to secure the spoils for the guys – whose win is a welcome one having waited so long and there spot in the 2018 Winner’s Invitational is now secure!

P……..* Down at Pleasington!
Peter Finch Uncategorised Event Write Up, Finch Golf Tour, UK
Newbies & a returning Pair clean up on a Wet day in Lancashire!
Pairs events are always a hit on the tour as golfers come to enjoy the banter of playing with pals in trying to out fox the course in a format which promotes attacking play and birdies galore, but Tour sponsors Mark Gregory & Tony Mather from Sunshine Showers Golf must have missed the memo as the laboured to a 35 point total – only 1 for 2 Groups not to break par.
Sunshine Showers Golf are a new forward thinking golf brand offering lots of products in their ever expanding lineup.
The 1/4 Zip Bonded Fleece and Gilet have been going down a storm on the tour over the past year and now we have these products available to buy via our online shop.
The Optical Pulse V5 Laser Rangefinder has been a huge hit offering a vibrating flagpole lock for ease and quickness, a waterproof design makes this rangefinder one of the best in the current market.
New Players and Returning Golfers in todays prizes!
The tour has been through a recruitment drive since the 1st September and over the past 90 days our website has had a phenomenal 40,000+ sessions and its great to see new players picking up prizes and returning golfer Richard Goldsmith claiming 3rd place via a card play off from 4 teams including myself and David Quilliam.
The front nine is certainly the easier to score on as 3 Par 5’s all offer scoring opportunities but it was the Par 3’s that wielded many birdies as 11 two’s were recorded with players Ashton, Ellison, Hereford and Finch all having TWO each.
Playing myself in the final group!
Over the last couple of week’s it has been great getting in the field playing in the last group, and today I went out partnering David Quilliam with Craig Bennett & Neil Brannigan – turning in 24 points was a little bit of an eye opener but only being 1 better than Craig & Neil showed a competitive game but perhaps I shouldn’t be allowed on the course as my 6 iron approach to the Par 5 was a near misses to Andy Booth head as it arrowed in for the flag. An eagle, birdie, birdie finish to the back nine had us £2 up at the turn but the heavens opened after the 12th and the end couldn’t come soon enough as we laboured to a 40 point finish.
I was as like last week a great way to get amongst the field playing with the players and would like to invite groups groups who would like to play and are one short for a game in the near future. Please just send an email and date you would like to play.
45 points just blitzed today’s field!
4 players tied on 40 points – As Goldsmith & Ashton just sneak onto the podium.”
3rd Place: Richard Goldsmith & Russell Ashton
After a short sabbatical Goldsmith & Ashton returned without close friend Richard Milsom too grab today’s 3rd Prize. Goldsmith is known for his attire like tour regular Adrian Brown for playing ONLY in shorts………. well obviously, shoes, shirt / waterproof tops too, but shorts no matter the weather and today he returned and didn’t waver from the norm as he accompanied Ashton to 40 points and claiming 3rd place by a card playoff
2nd Place: David Setterfield & Mick Southern
The Burnley Golfers made the short journey to Pleasington GC today and put on a solid show playing with tour starter Ken Finch after a quick shuffle of the pack.
After a quick start to the round the guys turned in 23 but through 11 holes were only 2 ahead of Finch as he is hitting his end of season purple patch, but the guys pulled away and produced a fine performance in there 1st ever Finch Golf Tour event just squeezing into 2nd place as the 4 teams behind faltered coming home.
1st Place: John Ellison & Andy Booth
Although lucky to be alive after my 7th hole exploits John Ellison (Marsden Park) and Andy Booth (Hesketh) produced a fine performance as they played flawless golf in what can only be described as a monsoon with Craig Bennett claiming he was “Wetter than an Otter’s pocket”
But turning in 24 points on the easier nine the 21 points was just if not more impressive as played from the 13th in very heavy conditions on what started out a great day for golf.
John Ellison’s two x two’s where a highlight but four hard hats have been ordered for the gents as part of their winning prizes.
The tour welcomes all of todays newcomers and our regulars as we move into our busiest period with events coming thick and fast.

Dean Wood Hosts as many others CLOSED!
Made Mauls the field as only player to break par!
Dean Wood Golf Club played host to todays Finch Golf Tour event and the inland course which is situated just North of Wigan was hit with a barrage of rain on Wednesday and we feared the worst.
But Thursday had a great forecast and the club ensured that the upmost was done to have a course playable for todays players.
Although the course was wet in areas the fairways a greens were immaculate given the weather the day before and a decision to play preferred lies through the green was the correct one as (only in patches) the rough could be a little damp – however we thanks Dean Wood yet again for welcoming the tour and true the the weather mans word the sun shone down and a great day was had by all.
A Shorter Write Up than usual!
Joanne was called upon today in welcoming the players back into the clubhouse as I was summoned to play by the ever competitive Paul Fell who has been asking for a game for the past two years.
The challenge was laid down and big money on the 1st tee (2, 2, & 2) but I won’t bore you with the details apart from his partner on the day finished in the Top 4, and he still lost all £6.
*But I must mention his very impressive two on the 16th which although hitting driver short off the tee ended up 5 yrs short and a tricky pitch over a bunker remained. Having struggled with his pitching for years he played this one handed and the ball never looked anywhere else as the fluid stroke crisply nipped the ball of the turf running out and just creeping over the edge for an impressive two winning him an £18.75 share of todays two’s pot!
Upcoming Order of Merit Qualifiers:
Dean Wood GC (TOMORROW) – Thursday 12th October 2017 – £25pp LAST REMAINING SPOTS
Windermere GC – Saturday 14th October 2017 – £30pp – Just 5 spaces Remaining!
Lindrick GC – Thursday 26th October 2017 – £65pp – Spaces Remaining.
A wide spread grouping of players again with players from Cumbria, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire Cheshire, Staffs and Wales – but non made a bigger journey than Ian McBeth & Shane Thompson from Southerness GC – thanks for the support lads and hope you enjoyed the day!
Its great to see so many people out on the course and playing competitive golf and as the tour season is now in full swing we look forward to welcoming you and your golfing friends back on the tour.
38 points just couldn’t be beaten…………. AGAIN!
“Maude brushes aside close pal Nuttall down the stretch”
Nigel Ashton – 4th Place
Nigel has been a consistent performer on the tour over the past year with last years Top 10 Order of Merit finish but has yet to win on the tour and having turned in 19 the possibilities today were there.
With some solid putting from 5ft and in, it was his driving which has turned the corner in fact some would say “EPIC” – Surely a win on this years schedule is just around the corner!
Paul Hitchen – 3rd Place
Paul battled it out with Nigel coming down the final stretch but a piece of magic form the Hindley Hall GC member on the last had Nigel clapping but Paul Fell in tears.
The par 5 was tricky for the 19 handicapper as his approach from 100yds was short and right leaving a 20 yard pitch, but as did Paul two holes previous the ball never looked anywhere else as he closed out with a 4 pointer and stormed up the field for a 3rd Place finish.
Hayden Bradley – 2nd Place
Westhoughton GC member Hayden was in a spot of bother also coming up 18 and closing with a bogey 6 was disappointing but ensure his 1st podium finish on the tour playing alongside fellow season highflier Chris Lowe 2 Handicap playing solid golf.
Simon Maude – 1st Place
But todays Spoils went to Simon Maude of Hurlston Hall GC who was tied with close friend Chris Nuttall through 9 and having “blobbed” the Stroke 2 14th must have thought his chances where gone, but he kept his head and a level par finish ensure Simon wins his 1st FINCH TOUR event and the only player in todays field to break par!
Fantastic golf and great to see such a great standard on the tour but also great to see everybody mixing and enjoying each others company, yet again!
