Flawless Fleetwood – Best Visit Yet!

Riggers & Nutts play flawless golf coming home to win by a street!

Each week I keep finding myself wanting to start with “The tour again returned to another Finch Golf Tour favourite” and although this would be fitting for this ONLY true links course on the Flyde Coast which boasts three stunning venues in Royal Lytham & St Annes, Fairhaven and St Annes Old Links Golf Club; Fleetwood Golf Club was in the best condition we had ever seen it from our multiple visits each year over the last 4.

With players drooling over the exquisite putting surfaces and well manicured course, Fleetwood GC had stood up so well with the recent deluge and lush links test was presented.

Kevin Moore, whose golfing life takes him to some of the worlds top venues was lauding the greens but Tony Hereford although commented how true the roll was, still wants to return and putt on the Harbour Town Links surfaces from our 2017 Masters Trip in March.

Pete Fotheringham had made the journey from Marple as the Mellor & Townscliffe member was unfortunately  partnered with Martin Humphries sure Pete’s ears will still be ringing when he pulls up back home.

Ade Brown & Frank Brocklebank look like they were about to mount a serious challenge for the title at the turn as 20 points on the board gave the Dean Wood GC pair a chance to move and stop/stop back nine had the gents only returning 33 points.

But it was David Henson (who was partnered at the last minute by Paul Hinchy) who smashed many driving records for an event, making the 3 Hour drive from Derbyshire, the gents had a great game along with tour regulars Ashton & Hereford and both teams tied on 37 points

New Pairings & Friendships – Returning Groups

Its was great to see some Old & New faces today, as players get the bug back for the 2017/18 Season.

A wide spread grouping of teams with teams made up of players from Cumbria, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire Cheshire, Staffs and Wales.

Its great to see so many people out on the course and playing competitive golf and as the tour season is now in full swing we look forward to welcoming you and your golfing friends back on the tour.

Nuttall showing signs of improvement!

Chris Nuttall has been a consistent tour member over the past year and the big hitting Hurlston Hall Member has reduced his handicap from 14 to 10 over the last year but has found it tough at times to continue early round form, non more so than last week at Clitheroe racing to the turn in -6 with partner Simon Maude.

Today the short 1st at Fleetwood beckoned put a pulled drive, ensured partner Daniel Rigby needed to step in and he duly did with a fine gross birdie – playing with Ulvertson Golfers Watkinson & Bremner the teams were neck and neck through nine, would it be a level playing field on the back nine or could either team kick on?

Spinning the Decks…… On there way to a podium finish!

4 Teams tied on 43 points – As Finch missis for 12″

Brewster/Hall & Finch Rhead will be cursing missed chances and especially Hall & Finch as both missed inexcusable putts to lift them into the podium finishes.

Watkinson and Bremner couldn’t keep on the tails of Rigby & Nuttall as the pairs battled it out on the back nine.

Bill Watkinson, a tour member for the past 3 years invited 2018 Ulvertson GC Captain to todays event and although pipped into 2nd by virtue of a card playoff but where happy to perform well and take a glimpse of the sensational back nine from Rigby and Nuttall.

“DJ” Carl Kennedy (Northenden) who is resident DJ of Selfridges and University DJ of Euphoric acclaim Neil McGuiness (Prestbury) where teamed up by chance and both golfers clicked and produced a fantastic partnership playing alongside Gary Wilcox & Mark Clarkson who return to the tour with a solid performance having blobbed the 2nd hole.

Finally, a back nine to be proud of from Chris as he and Dan converted 5 gross birdies, taking advantage of the pure surfaces.

With 7 Holes to play the scores where level but in benign conditions Nuttall made short work of the final 6 holes covering them in -2 gross himself with Rigby chipping in with his own birdie on the Short Par 5 12th.

47 Points ensure a winning score by 4 strokes from a group of 4 teams – Stunning golf!
