46 Points was enough for a Three Way tie for 1st….
West Lancashire Golf Club has always been a treat as the golf course design offers so many qualities but over the past two years a major shake up has brought three TOP Professionals in there own right together to produce what will be one of the finest golfing venues England’s Golf Coast will have to offer in years to come.
Head Master Greenkeeper – Stuart Hogg
Head Professional – Gavin Abson
Golf Manager – Chris Alty
The setup up now at West Lancashire GC is awesome and the course is certainly living up to it’s name and there is never a greater sight in November of greenskeepers offering cut and ironed greens.
Midlands Golfer – Justin Hadley is our personal barometer of green’s quality and having walked to the desk with a huge smile on his face, things were good and he described the course and greens in sensational condition.
Top Football Coach – Ben Parsonage said the course has now gone into his top list having never played although living nearby.
Another great day put on by West Lancashire GC and we thank all involved for being a part of it.
Special mention to Tony Kelly too today as the Hindley Hall Golf Club member made light work of the Par 4 15th as his iron shot never left the pin and in for an EAGLE two, partner Stef Bilski described the thined 7 iron as a thing of beauty!
Regular Dan Rigby was happy too have made a two to boost his Finch Golf Tour account but said a good round partnering Rob Hales could’ve been good if he could just keep the ball on the golf course with his driver something he will need to do in Dubai in a couple of weeks as Water will be lurking for any errant drives.
The day was benign as the players made easy work on a day which only happens at West Lancs on a handful of times each year……………. NO WIND!
Always great to see new Pairings & Friendships & Returning Groups
Its was great to see some Old & New faces today, as players get the bug back for the 2017/18 Season, with regulars Kevin & Bob Moore along with sister Elaine Hough in the States playing at Home Club Lake Nona.
A wide spread grouping of teams with teams made up of players from Cumbria, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire Cheshire, Staffs and Wales with many others
Its great to see so many people out on the course and playing competitive golf and as the tour season is now in full swing we look forward to welcoming you and your golfing friends back on the tour.
Whitmore just misses on Card Playoff Again!
Chris Whitmore has been playing some fantastic golf recently and just missed out again by virtue of a card playoff this time playing with close pal Justin Hadley, having just missed last week with another pal Phil Shackleton.
The support from players from far afield is fantastic and we are sure with some of the golf Chris is playing a victory is just around the corner.
Harry Potter’s Wand used to win…… As Keough holes from EVERYWHERE!
3 Teams tied on 46 points – As Keough birdies the last to WIN!
3rd Place – Justin Hadley & Chris Whitmore – 46 Points – Beaten on back 6 playoff
Justin Hadley and Chris Whitmore are a dynamite pairing and playing in today’s 1st group the guys had set the pace playing with Mark Stevenson & Andrew Ruseel from Fixby Golf Club.
A solid 22 points on the front nine the guys kicked into gear as Hadley’s birdie two on the tough 12th set the lads onto a fantastic back nine.
2nd Place – Tony Kelly & Stef Bilski – 46 Points – Won on a back six playoff
Tony’s wonder strike on 15 proved decisive as they guys finished on a high and claiming todays 2nd spot. Stef provided the backup but solid golf from both guys of Hindley Hall GC was enough for there 1st Podium finish on the Finch Golf Tour.
1st Place – Martin Keough & Steve Ling – 46 Points – A sensational back nine of 26 points
I had been promising Martin Keough a game for months but unfortunatly on the day Steve Ling’s partner cancelled so a quick reshuffle and I had given my spot up and offered Steve the place – after some calculations in his head he opted to take the tee time and as they say the rest is history.
Martin has been playing on the tour for 18 months now and never before last week has he had a sniff of a podium finish never mind a win, and having finished 3rd with 36 points last week at Lindrick the Order of Merit highflier kicked on today with a putting display “likend” to Brad Faxon’s as he waved his wand from all parts of the green to hole some vital putts and the one on 18 for birdie capped a memorable week for the guy from Ripon.
Steve Ling of Chorley Golf Club couldn’t believe his luck as his partner defied odds and had 21 putts in 16 holes as the 3 Handicapper could only get on the card 4 times all day even though with his own ball he was -1 gross.
Chuffed for the guys who are now invited to the end of season Winners Invitational after there stunning round of golf!
